North Cornwall Table Tennis League latest round-up
DIVISION One champions North Hill A suffered their first defeat of the season on Thursday night as they were surprisingly beaten 6-4 by old rivals Bridgerule A at North Hill Village Hall.
Bridgerule lost 7-3 at Budehaven A last month, but this victory ensures there could be a three-way battle at the top.
David Streak kept up his fine record against North Hill with a treble which saw him drop just one set, but it was Peter Freeburn’s hat-trick that really caught the eye as he beat both Shirley Luckhurst and Mike Briggs in deciders.
David Stone was narrowly beaten by Luckhurst in sudden death, while Luckhurst and Briggs took the doubles.
Leaders Budehaven A enjoyed a good week as they beat Stratton and North Hill B, both by 8-2 scorelines.
At Stratton, debutant Richard Ryan defeated Elyot Burnett in his opener on his way to a treble, while both David Sillifant and Aleks Worth won two as well as losing to Burnett.
It was a similar night’s work on Thursday. Alistair Prades overcame a superb fightback from Tau Manonge to remain unbeaten, but Manonge beat Worth and Sillifant.
The other match in the division saw Budehaven B win 9-1 at Crackington A.
Although Keiron Chatterjea earned a first win of the season in defeating Nathan Jukes, trebles from David Ewen and Jeremy Skelton were enough.
Division Two saw two matches.
Budehaven C eased past Crackington B 9-1 with trebles for Ezra Jukes, Robin Worden and Keith McGarry, while Blisland and Bridgerule B drew 5-5.
Simon Patterson (3) and Stephen Parsons (2) got the Blisland points with the visitors’ reward coming via Alan Quilter (2), Shaun Collins, Barry Stearman and the doubles.
