Bude 3 Penzance Seconds 1

BUDE remain right in the promotion picture after a 3-1 success over Penzance Seconds at the Budehaven Sports Centre.

Bude, who welcomed back a couple of players from their defeat at Camborne School of Mines, started well and just after the ten-minute mark saw a fine team move finished off by Charles Walker.

After both sides had their moments, including the visiting keeper have to be on top form on a couple of occasions, the Seasiders doubled their lead when Walker converted a short corner for his second.

Penzance always offered a threat on the counter attack and it was from a quick counter attack through the middle that they got themselves back into the game as Bude left themselves with an underload and the Penzance striker made no mistake with a deft deflection.

The umpires gave both teams a warning at half-time to clean up their act, but it did not work as a scruffy disjointed half ensued with both teams being punished with a variety of cards and can count themselves lucky that there was not more.

Young keeper Oscar Kirby made an excellent diving stick save low to his right to keep Bude in front and this turned out to be a pivotal moment in the game as the hosts pushed on to create an excellent array of chances from all angles.

But it was not until the 60th minute until Bude got the decisive goal they deserved. Walker completed his hat-trick with another goal from open play which earned him a share of the man of match award with Tom Lush and Robin Jennings who all put in an excellent shift.

Bude will be the first to admit that it was not their finest game but within the bigger picture of things it is another step in the right direction to their overall aim of promotion as it keeps the pressure up on league leaders Truro who Bude face away next week in a top of the table clash.

WOMEN’S TRELAWNEY DIVISION ONE

Bude 4 Okehampton 2

BUDE bounced back from their recent stodgy form to see off Okehampton 4-2 at home.

The Seasiders started strong with the ball being played nicely through the midfield, and within minutes Hannah Maloney and Katie Jackson combined to get the ball around the visitors and to Charlotte Prime who opened the scoring.

This was shortly followed by an equaliser from Oke, but before long Bude were back ahead, with Prime again the scorer after a strong drive down the line.

Up to the break the hosts had further chances, but found the goalkeeper equal to everything thrown at her.

Bude were tested more in the second half and defenders, Naomi Hatcher, Willow du Plessis and Izzy Wickett stopped every ball that came near the goal before distributing back up the pitch.

Okehampton went with in inches of an equaliser when a good move saw them round the keeper, but Clarey Westaway came to the rescue, clearing a shot off the line.

Oke got their deserved equaliser, but that inspired Bude who then regrouped to devastating effect.

Izzy Sobey sent a fine pass through to Prime who made no mistake for her hat-trick.

She was then taken out by the goalkeeper resulting in a penalty flick which was confidently converted by Phoebe Gannon to secure a fine 4-2 success.

Bude have a bye this Saturday in the 11-team division and are next in action next weekend when they head to Bodmin Seconds.
