North Cornwall Table Tennis League latest round-up

CHAMPIONS North Hill Avengers continue to set a blistering pace at the top of Division One after seeing off bottom side Crackington Argonauts 10-0 on Thursday night.

The trio of Iain Oxenham, Shirley Luckhurst and the returning Mike Briggs proved too good, dropping just two sets between them.

Budehaven A saw off their B team 8-2.

The home side raced into a 5-0 lead, which included two victories each for Alistair Prades and David Sillifant, before David Ewen got the B team off the mark with a four-set victory over Aleks Worth.

Prades and Sillifant took the doubles before Jeremy Skelton comfortably beat Sillifant in four.

But Prades kept up his unbeaten start to the season despite being pushed to sudden death in the decider by Ewen, before Worth defeated Nathan Jukes in the final match.

North Hill B beat Stratton 6-4 for their first victory of the campaign.

Tau Manonge was the star of the show with a treble for North Hill, which was added to by Mike Wood’s brace and the doubles.

Elyot Burnett saw off Jim Rickwood and Wood, but lost a five-setter to Manonge in a high-quality contest.

Anth Ward and Ian Westaway also defeated Rickwood in four.

In Division Two, just seven points separate all eight teams.

Blisland are top despite losing 6-4 to Altarnun B who saw Paul Burden win all three, while Simon Patterson (Blisland) and David Thorpe (Altarnun B) enjoyed doubles.

Altarnun A won 9-1 at Crackington B with David Jones and Jamie Sims undefeated all night with the only home point coming via Judith Cook’s victory over Geoff Hale.

The closest match of the week was at Bridgerule as their B team drew 5-5 with North Hill C.

Bridgerule’s Alan Quilter won three, while Trevor Luckhurst and Ryan Taylor both secured braces.
