BUDEHAVEN A, Stratton and Bridgerule A are all through to the North Cornwall Table Tennis League Division One Knockout Cup semi-finals following victories last week.

The first of the three quarter-finals for the right to join holders North Hill A in the last four was at Stratton on Tuesday night as they welcomed Budehaven B.

The competition is played as doubles throughout and the hosts raced into a 3-0 success as the various combinations from Elyot Burnett, Ian Westaway and Anthony Ward won their first games, that despite two going to a decider.

The next two were exchanged, but at 4-1 Budehaven had to win the final four to go through.

But despite David Ewen, Nathan Jukes and Jeremy Skelton rallying to force a decider, Burnett and Westaway battled from 2-0 down to beat Jukes and Skelton.

Bridegrule ground out a 5-0 victory against North Hill B despite three of the five matches going to a final set as David Streak, David Stone and Peter Freeburn won the crucial points to see off Mike Wood, Jim Rickwood and Peter Frier.

Budehaven A had no such trouble at Crackington A as they also won without dropping a match, and only lost one set in doing so as Aleks Worth, Alistair Prades and David Sillifant set up a semi-final with Bridgerule.

Division Two saw four quarter-finals.

Budehaven C fought back from 3-1 down to beat Crackington B 5-4, helped by three victories from the pairing of Ezra Jukes and Robin Worden, while across the hall, league champions North Hill C eventually proved too strong for newcomers Budehaven D in a 5-3 success.

Blisland were 5-2 victors over a Altarnun A side who were wondering how they had lost after three final set defeats, while the other game scheduled saw Bridgerule B concede to Altarnun B.
