SWPL PREMIER WEST (SATURDAY)

Bude Town 1 Sticker 1

DEBUTANT Callum Deemer scored a superb late equaliser to earn the Seasiders a useful point against strugglers Sticker at Broadclose Park on Saturday.

Town went into the game on a two-match unbeaten run having drawn at Camelford and then put six past Launceston in midweek, while Sticker arrived in North Cornwall in decent fettle themselves after a 3-2 success over Launceston.

Bude gave debuts to midfielder Chris Santos – visiting for the weekend - and attacker Deemer who has joined from SWPL Premier East high-flyers Okehampton Argyle, but were without key attacking duo Tom Davey and Joe Barker amongst others.

Once the action did get underway the first half was nothing to write home about as both teams’ defences were well on top, with just a flurry of corners for each side the closest there was to a breakthrough.

Again chances were at a premium until the 81st minute when Sticker went in front.

A superb ball in from the left by full-back Jake Chafer was headed home by Haiden Chapman.

Sticker keeper Ethan Elwell was rarely tested, but as injury-time approached, Deemer fired a 25-yard shot into the bottom corner to send the majority of the 108-strong crowd home happy.

Bude boss Steve Hackett told the Post: “It wasn’t a pretty game of football by any stretch of the imagination, but we’ll take a point against a Sticker side who have been getting really positive results of late.

“The lads showed character to dig deep with minutes to go to get a valuable draw.”
