SWPL PREMIER WEST (SATURDAY)

Truro City Reserves 2 Holsworthy 1

THE Magpies’ trip to the new stadium at Langarth ended in defeat thanks to two late goals from Ben Shaw and Jack Bowyer.

Holsworthy were without skipper Jedd Peschke and attacker Gavin Carter, both suspended following recent red cards, while Ollie Moores and Aiden Slade were also missing.

Midfielders Jake Cartwright and Scott Bingham were drafted in from the reserves to start.

On a pristine playing surface at the Truro City Stadium, Cartwright, making his first start at Step Six, hit the post from 18 yards after just two minutes being played through by the returning Jay Thomas.

Bowyer missed a glorious chance for the hosts on 15 minutes when he blazed over from close range after good work from Liam Higgins.

On the 40-minute mark the visitors twice were denied by the woodwork.

First, Blake Shapland’s 20-yard free-kick hit the crossbar, and from the rebound, Todd Peschke’s drive shaved the upright.

Both sides emptied their benches in the second half, but it took until the 62nd minute for a goal as Niall Slade’s ball in from the right for the Magpies was poked in by Ben Sharpe at the near post.

Truro levelled on 75 minutes when Alfie Flack’s wayward shot from the left was diverted in by Shaw, and they completed the turnaround on 86 minutes when Bowyer tapped in a rebound after Mykey Davies’ free-kick hit the crossbar.

Owen Rosevear had to clear off the line in a scramble as Holsworthy pushed for a leveller, but the Tinners held on.
