NORTH Petherwin were knocked out of the Cornwall Intermediate Cup on Saturday after a 2-1 defeat to Hayle at Petherwin Park.

Both sides are in the top five of their respective Piran League divisions and the first half ended goalless.

However, despite Matt Stainer’s 71st minute goal for the Badgers, Hayle went through thanks to Aaron Hicks and Cameron Irish.

There were also plenty of games in the St Piran League involving Post area clubs on Saturday.

Defending Premier East champions St Dominick earned a 2-2 draw at Gunnislake in the first Tamar Valley derby of the season.

The hosts took the lead 15 minutes in through Kye Cowley, but Callington Town’s Kieran Ryall equalised soon after.

The game’s big talking point on the half-hour when Liam Hunn was adjudged to have stopped a goal-bound shot with his hand and was sent off, but keeper Ryan Brown, filling in for the injured Jamie Blatchford, saved it.

Five minutes into the second half the Lakers went in front through left-back Aaron Varcoe, but in the sixth minute of added on time, Ryall’s free-kick was side-footed home by Adam Snowdon.

Elsewhere in the division, Launceston Reserves were beaten 3-2 at Foxhole Stars despite goals from Sam Short and Jack Japes, while Oliver Wethereall got Altarnun’s goal in a 4-1 defeat at St Austell Reserves.

Several Post area sides battled it out in Division One East, the result of the day going to in-form Kilkhampton who thrashed Boscastle 6-1.

It was 1-1 at the break, which included a home own goal, before the hosts put on the accelerator.

St Minver made the short trip to St Breward and ran out 4-2 winners despite it being 1-1 at half-time.

Third-placed St Teath ran out 3-2 winners at fellow high-flyers Torpoint Athletic Thirds thanks to an own goal, Leighton Carhart and Freddie Foster, while Lifton’s trip to runaway leaders St Newlyn East ended in a 3-1 defeat. Liam Rich got the visiting goal but Ross London’s hat-trick was enough.

Pensilva picked up just a second victory since promotion as they thrashed Newquay Reserves 6-1.

Sam Rogers, Kyle Hutchings, Jacob England and Martyn Putt gave them a 4-0 half-time cushion before Chris Snowdon and Euan McSherry added the gloss in the second half.

In Division Two East, just two Post area clubs were in action.

Bude Town Reserves continue to try to gel following a summer of upheaval, and made the long trip down to Gerrans and St Mawes United and were beaten 4-1.

Their consolation came in the second half through Aaron Hart after the hosts led 3-0 at the break.

Calstock made the short trip to Saltash United Thirds and won 2-1.

They led in the first half through Olly Costa before the Ashes equalised.

Piran Knott kept the visitors in the game with some fine saves before James Garwood got the winner.

Delabole United recorded a third victory since promotion in Division Three East with a 4-3 success at St Dominick Reserves.

The Slaters’ hero was Nathan Smith who helped himself to a hat-trick, two of which came in the second half, while Bradley Travers got the second on ten minutes.
