North Devon Football League round-up – Saturday, November 2
WITH Holsworthy Reserves once again having the weekend off in the Premier, both Morwenstow and Shebbear United had contrasting afternoons on Saturday in the Senior Division.
Morwenstow made the very long trip up to the top of North Devon to picturesque Lynton aiming for a third straight victory, and did so, running out 4-1 winners.
The Greens’ scorers were Jake Gilbert, Corrick Davies, Callum Rogers and Harry Savage.
Shebbear lost 2-1 at Bideford AFC Reserves despite a dominant first half performance.
The Tangerines had plenty of possession and chances before the break, but only led 1-0, that goal coming from Stuart Quance after Matt Facey’s header was cleared off the line.
But Bideford improved after half-time and scored twice through George King, the second of which came from a rebound after a shot from Billy Rose hit the post.
Third-placed Shebbear regrouped again, but failed to seriously test the home keeper as they wondered how they had failed to gain any points for their efforts.
In Intermediate One, all four Post area clubs were in action including the local derby between Holsworthy Thirds and visiting Bradworthy.
The visitors led 3-0 at the break, and although the Magpies were much more competitive after the restart and scored through Joel Greening and Harry Grigg, Bradworthy got the all-important fourth to keep to move within three points of leaders Braunton Thirds who were surprisingly beaten 4-3 at second bottom Morwenstow Reserves.
Bradworthy’s scorers were George Wellington, Lee Clarke, Bradley Birch and Tudor Placinta.
Up at Morwenstow, the Greens produced a season’s best display to grab their first win at the 12th attempt with Nathan Pearce the hero with a hat-trick. Tyler Trewin was also on target.
Mid-table Putford led 2-0 against Kingsley Wizards through Chris Pomeroy and Will Jeremy before having to settle for a point.
