LAUNCESTON Training Band has displayed its skills recently as it took to the stage at the Regency Centre in Torquay.

After many weeks of training, the big day finally arrived on November 2, as band members took part in their first contest at the venue.

Supported by parents, committee members and members of the senior band, the group put on a show for all who were watching and listening.

Thanks to their hard work, the band managed to achieve a podium position, securing third place in their section.

They were under the musical directorship of Ann Brown, who also leads the town’s senior band, receiving the Myers Harrison Trophy for their efforts.

The day featured a long journey, leaving Launceston at 7am and returning late into the evening, the band enjoyed the day with travel by Tilleys Coaches.

There were also a few stand out performances, with Poppy Shelford’s cornet solo and Asher Burt on percussion, both receiving praise in the adjudicator’s remarks after the contest which was the regional qualifier of the Southwest Brass Band association.

A spokesperson from the band added: “Both the senior band and the training band are now looking forward to the Christmas concert in the Town Hall on December 1.”
