WERRINGTON have made three changes from last weekend’s defeat to Wadebridge when they head down to title-chasing Penzance tomorrow in the ECB Cornwall Premier League (12.30pm).

The Tron are all but safe and have a 27-point lead over bottom side Camborne with only one team to go down, and with second-placed Callington to come on the final day, they could have a huge say on who takes the championship.

Skipper Nick Lawson has to do without all-rounder Ben Smeeth (work), batsman Tom Lyle (holiday) and Leo McDonnell (unavailable) from last weekend’s team, but has some more than handy replacements. John Moon will likely slot in at the top of the order while Dan Howgill is rewarded for some good form in the seconds with a spot in the middle order.

Mark Taskis is back to bolster the spin attack, although batsman Ryan Pooley is missing once more due to a knee injury and may miss the rest of the season.

WERRINGTON at Penzance: Sam Hockin, John Moon, Adam Hodgson, Thulina Dilshan, Mark Gribble, Ben Jenkin, Dan Howgill, Nick Lawson (capt, wkt), George Rickard, Dan Barnard, Mark Taskis.

Werrington Seconds welcome Lanhydrock knowing that the title race is out of their hands following last weekend’s results.

While they lost at St Blazey on Saturday, leaders St Austell Seconds thrashed South Petherwin and then beat Blazey on Sunday to ensure they have a two-point lead with a game in-hand in Division Two East.

It means Werrington must win their final three games and hope for help from elsewhere.

They are far from full strength for the visit of a Lanhydrock side battling to finish outside of the bottom four.

While realistically they can only finish as high as eighth in the 12-team division, the difference could be huge as either Mullion from the west or Roche from the east are likely to finish fourth bottom in the battle to avoid the drop from County Division One.

How many from the east or west that go down will depend on whether it is four or five that are relegated from the east divisions.

Werrington have seen Dan Howgill go up to the first team but are also without the likes of Mark Hodgson, Hugh Tomkinson and Leo McDonnell.

But such is the strength of the club, they are able to call upon the likes of Simon Bishop and Zander Zambuni to bolster the batting, all-rounder Darren Webber for just his second appearance of the season, and promising paceman Tyler May.

WERRINGTON SECONDS v Lanhydrock: Rob May, Marley May, Simon Bishop, Dan Warring, Zander Zambuni, Jason Seldon (capt), Rob Dymond (wkt), Darren Webber, Ian Searle, Tyler May, Nick Oldaker.

IAN Wills’ third team picked up a vital home victory over their Grampound Road counterparts last Saturday and will hope for back-to-back wins when they head to Tideford.

However with four players in the seconds, Ian Worsnip on holiday and Paul Miller still injured, they have to had to call upon several of the fourth team.

The experience of batsman Matt Chatfield and spinner Ben Sonley should have no problem adapting, while some of the youngsters will hope to step up in what is a big game.

WERRINGTON THIRDS: Matt Chatfield, Sam Smeeth, Ed Walters (wkt), Ian Wills (capt), Richard Stanbury, Dan Jenkin, Matt Gilmour, Joe Gent, Nick Wills, Andrew Smeeth, Ben Sonley.

The fourths, who will be stretched to the limit with availability, are due to welcome Gunnislake to Ladycross in Division Five East.
