Cornwall Cricket League Division Four East round-up – Saturday, August 17

ST MINVER Seconds’ charge away from trouble continues as they made it a third straight win with a 101-run thrashing of Newquay Thirds at Menefreda Way.

Charlie Edwards’ side racked up an imposing 275-5 with half centuries coming from Jack Gill (67no), Neil Kent (61) and Steve Hawke (56).

Kent and Hawke did much of the groundwork at a good pace before Gill’s 45-ball knock contained ten fours and a six.

It was all game over at 53-6 which included 4-10 from four overs for left-arm spinner Nigel Hocking, but a 98-run stand between former Delabole man Henning Kaaber and Tom Stephenson ensured the scoreline was far more respectable.

Kaaber’s 54 came from just 48 deliveries while Stephenson’s 37 took 64 balls.

Sam Hocking claimed 3-43 while Matt Gilbert chipped in at the end with 2-6.

Launceston Seconds travelled to Buckland Monachorum and were thrashed by 115 runs.

They were right in the contest with the hosts 46-1 after 20 overs thanks to some tight bowling from Matt Davey (0-21) and Brett Grosvenor (1-25), but although Sam Palmer did well for his 3-37, the hosts accelerated to reach 183-4.

With the likes of Mark Thomas and Danny Sloman unavailable, Launceston’s batting was brittle and it showed as they were all out for 68, no-one making more than Toby Theobald’s 16.

Elsewhere in the division, leaders St Neot now have a two-point lead over St Blazey.

They picked up 20 points in a 152-run success over neighbours Lanhydrock Seconds, while Blazey secured 18 in their eight-wicket success at Grampound Road Thirds who made 175-7.

Menheniot-Looe Seconds won by 55 runs at Duloe despite being dismissed for just 107, while St Stephen enjoyed a seven-wicket success at Pencarrow who could only muster 115 all out.
