BATSMAN John Moon is back and available for Werrington’s crunch clash with Helston at Ladycross tomorrow in the ECB Cornwall Premier League (1pm).

The former Calstock youngster comes in for Ryan Pooley in the only change from last Saturday’s disappointment at Camborne where they were dismissed for just 71 having been set 118 to win.

Werrington’s batting has been a real problem all season, making less than 150 on five occasions in their nine outings, while their home form has seen them yet to win in defeats to Redruth, St Just and Penzance.

But with six of their nine games being played away from North Cornwall, hopes are high that they can kickstart their campaign and move further clear of bottom side St Just who are just four points behind.

With half of the season now done, the fixtures are played in reverse with Helston the opposition.

Werrington eventually eased to victory down at Beacon Parc, but haven’t got a good recent record at home against the Blues, including losing by ….. runs last summer.

Helston will travel hoping to have seamer Ryan Tonkin back after missing last weekend’s abandonment against St Just, and need their impressive top order on paper to start firing after a lean trot.

WERRINGTON: Sam Hockin, John Moon, Adam Hodgson, Thulina Dilshan, Mark Gribble, Ben Smeeth, Ben Jenkin, Nick Lawson (capt, wkt), Dan Barnard, Mark Taskis, Jordan Duke.

Werrington Seconds are top of the table in Division Two East ahead of their trip to St Minver (1pm).

Jason Seldon’s side have lost just once, at Holsworthy, back in May, and stormed to a six-wicket success against visiting South Petherwin last Saturday.

Seldon, who took 6-16 from 4.3 overs in that game, is away and replaced as skipper by batsman Tom Lyle, while spin-bowling all-rounder Leo McDonnell is also out.

Promising youngster Billy Uglow is available once more after an unbeaten 44 last Saturday, while all-rounder Mark Hodgson is fit again and also comes in, as does seamer Nick Oldaker who is back from holiday.

WERRINGTON SECONDS: Marley May, Simon Bishop (wkt), Ryan Pooley, Tom Lyle (capt), Rob May, George Rickard, Dan Howgill, Billy Uglow, Mark Hodgson, Ian Searle, Nick Oldaker.

WERRINGTON Thirds failed to chase 198 at Saltash St Stephens last Saturday, eventually finishing on 164-9, but have an exciting derby date against Launceston to get up for.

The Tron have been better in recent weeks, helped by better availability higher up the club, and will fancy their chances on home soil.

They name a strong side, which includes former second team wicket-keeper and captain Rob Dymond, who will play as a batsman.

Chairman Adam Paynter, who scored 100 and took 5-39 for the fourths last week, is also recalled.

WERRINGTON THIRDS: Ed Walters, Adam Paynter, Paul Miller, Dan Warring, Ian Wills (capt), Zander Zambuni, Rob Dymond, Dan Jenkin, Ian Worsnip, Sam Smeeth, Tyler May.

The fourths, who won both of their outings last weekend, head to Pencarrow to take on Wadebridge Thirds in Division Five East.
