BOND TIMBER CORNWALL CRICKET LEAGUE DIVISION TWO T20 CUP QUARTER-FINAL

Werrington 2 v Holsworthy

HOLDERS Holsworthy progressed to Finals Day for the second straight year after a comfortable five-wicket victory at Division Two East leaders Werrington on Thursday night.

Werrington skipper Jason Seldon chose to bat first at Ladycross but Billy Uglow went for a golden duck, picking out Jasper Presswell at cover off Rob Mitchell, before Tom Lyle went for a single when he picked out Brendan Harris at mid-off off Mitchell (13-2).

Jack Greening’s (0-10) first three overs went for seven as the hosts crawled along to 28-2 after eight overs.

The innings was given some impetus as Rob May (30) smashed Charlie Presswell’s leg-spin for 21 off an over, but he was bowled in the tenth by seamer Jasper Presswell’s first ball.

Marley May picked up several singles, but he departed in the 18th over for just 26, although Mark Hodgson did at least get them above 100 with a quickfire 21 as they finished on 102-8.

Herschelle Poggenpoel (1-11) and Jasper Presswell (3-13) were incredibly frugal.

Holsworthy got off to a poor start as Poggenpoel picked out Tomkinson at backward point off Leo McDonnell’s (1-6 off 3) off-spin, before Sam Stacey dragged on a Tyler May delivery for nought.

Jack Greening (19) and Ryan Walter took the score to 39 in the ninth over when Greening was bowled by Seldon. (1-14 off 4).

Walter was dropped just before that on the long-on fence before he and Jasper Presswell put on a match-winning stand of 59.

Presswell (27) was eventually caught behind off Mark Hodgson and Walter (35) picked out cover off Billy Uglow, but the damage was done.

Division Two West leaders Perranporth await at Finals Day at Redruth on Sunday, August 25, for the right to face St Austell Seconds or Redruth Seconds.
