WEST HOCKEY LEAGUE WOMEN’S TRELAWNEY DIVISION ONE
Bude 0 Bodmin 4
THE Seasiders fought hard against Bodmin on Saturday, ultimately losing 4-0 at the Budehaven Sports Centre, but the result didn’t reflect their determined performance.
Jo Timmons was fantastic in goal, making several crucial saves to keep Bodmin at bay.
In defence, Hannah Maloney was a standout, earning joint player of the match for her ability to control the ball and carry it away from danger.
Clare Westaway, Willow du Plessis, and Eva Clarke also put in strong performances, breaking up Bodmin's attacks.
Caroline Hockridge shared the player of the match award for her excellent work in midfield. She broke through Bodmin’s defence with ease, showing great skill on the ball, while Naomi Hatcher and Izzy Sobey worked hard to support her, driving the team forward.
Up front, Chloe Hall, Charlotte Prime, EJ Biggadike and Phoebe Gannon showed great movement and determination, pressing Bodmin’s defence.
Evelyn Varcoe and Mia Flynn also made strong runs, providing width and delivering crosses into the box.
Despite the 4-0 scoreline, Bude’s effort was undeniable.
The Seasiders, who sit eighth in the 12-team division, will hope to returning ways on Saturday when they welcome third-placed University of Plymouth Seconds (11.30am).
Bude’s men were due to welcome Duchy Seconds in Piran Division One, but with the West Cornwall side unable to raise a side, the fixture was pushed back until later in the season.
Andy Davis’ side, who have won 11 and lost just one of their 13 outings, will look to regain the momentum which has seen them push themselves once again into the promotion picture when they visit University of Plymouth Seconds (3pm).
Bude currently sit third in the table, a point behind Truro Thirds with a game in-hand, and five adrift of leaders Camborne School of Mines.
