WEST HOCKEY LEAGUE MEN’S PIRAN DIVISION ONE (SATURDAY)

Bude 15 Tavistock 1

THE Seasiders started the second half of the season in stunning style with a fabulous goal fest at home to bottom placed Tavistock.

Bude had the ball in the net within just five minutes, but it was chalked off for obstruction however there was no such mistake two minutes later when a lovely flowing team move down the left found Thomas Hall who hit home with a reverse strike.

The lead was doubled soon after as good pressure high up saw Bude gain a sideline ball which George Drew took quickly finding Kristof Saunders in the middle who threaded a perfect pass between the two Tavistock defenders for Zack Davis who had snuck in around the back of them to deflect the ball in making it 2-0.

Saunders scored next with a lovely straight strike before Robin Jennings got his first goal of the season from close range.

Saunders made it five with another straight strike that deflected off the keeper’s stick high into the roof of the net beforeHall popped up again in the right place to finish from a well-worked move down the middle.

A successful penalty corner set piece saw Matthew Horton fire hard and low into the bottom left corner of the goal for the seventh which left just enough time for Saunders to complete a first half hat-trick for 8-0.

Tavistock did score when a superb run down the middle by Nicholas Andrews ended with him slotting in, but Bude then responded as goals from Zack Davis, Tom Lush, Charlie Falla (2), Drew Bardsley and Saunders made it 14-1.

Hall ended the game nutmegging the goalkeeper from an acute angle to complete his hat-trick.

Man of the match went to Saul Barraclough for his immense work and superb link-up play and assists.

WEST HOCKEY LEAGUE MEN’S PIRAN DIVISION ONE (SUNDAY)

Truro Fourths 0 Bude 3

BUDE made no mistake on Sunday as they eased to a 3-0 victory.

The Seasiders faced a side that could have been troublesome, but after a shaky start took the lead within 10 minutes as a quick counter from the back saw Robin Jennings link up well with numerous players before eventually sweeping home.

Chances came and went for both teams as they wrestled each other for control and dominance, but a second arrived when Kristof Saunders got the ball under control in the D before using nimble footwork to spin and release a low instinctive snap shot on goal which went in through the keeper’s legs.

The second half was just as tense and exciting as the first half with both teams going toe-to-toe.

But midway through the half the Seasiders ensured the points went back to Bude as a lifted ball from the back gave the pacey duo of Henry Gwynn-Thomas and Charlie Falla the perfect counter attack opportunity.

Gwynn-Thomas showed off his aerial 3D skills, twice tapping the ball past the defenders and with a third closing in he slipped the ball to Falla who smashed it past the keeper and into the goal to the sheer delight of the players and travelling spectators.

Bude defended well late on to ensure a clean sheet, while man of the match went to Drew Bardsley for a fine performance on the left wing.
