SWPL PREMIER WEST (SATURDAY)

Bude Town 2 Newquay 1

CALLUM Deemer scored twice as Bude Town shocked previous leaders Newquay 2-1 at Broadclose Park.

The young winger struck a 20-yard free-kick to put the hosts in front, and after defending heroically for long spells, Deemer’s late penalty doubled the advantage before Newquay’s late consolation.

On an emotional week for the Seasiders where they held a charity match for striker Gary Clarke who is battling cancer, another bumper crowd (161) were in attendance to face a Newquay side chasing promotion.

But within four minutes the Peppermints were behind when Deemer found the bottom right-hand corner.

Newquay, who were without star forwards Louis Price and Callam Mconie, dominated possession, but found the home side’s defence, led by man of the match Lloyd Scaife in miserly mood.

The second half saw Newquay continue to pile the pressure on, but despite having plenty of corners, again rarely troubled Rowe bar a good save from a free-kick.

In the dying seconds, Bude sealed victory when Deemer was sent through and brought down by keeper Brodie Cole, before making no mistake from 12 yards.

Newquay responded via Aaron Dilley following a scramble, but it was Bude’s day.

Bude boss Steve Hackett said: “This was a magnificent performance from the boys, which was full of heart, desire, fight and togetherness in front of a crowd who were also fantastic.

“Sixteen-year-old Jake Woodland had another terrific game in our midfield, the back four were solid and fought for everything and Lloyd Scaife had an outstanding game and was voted man of the match.”
