THE president of Launceston Rotary Club visited St Giles on the Heath Primary School foundation stage unit on Friday, October 4, to officially open the children’s play cabin.

Margaret Young was delighted to cut the ribbon to the play cabin, which was purchased with a generous donation from the Rotary Club of Launceston as well as funds raised by the children through a range of activities including a plant sale in the spring.

A school spokesperson said: “The children are really enjoying the space which allows them to extend their role play activities into the outside area and over a longer period of time as their play can be left ready for the next session.

“The children enjoyed the visit from Margaret and talked with her about her special Presidents Chain. They showed her the shed and talked about the things that they enjoy playing with in it. They presented her with a bunch of flowers to express their thanks.”

The school is currently participating in the Tesco ‘Stronger Starts’ fundraising scheme to enable them to make further improvements including a music area, outside role play café and raised beds for planting. Future planned developments include building a large gravel and sand digging area.
