St Stephen’s Church has announce its latest concert on Friday, November 1, in what is hoped to be a rolling programme each year, bringing top quality classical music to Launceston in a new venue.

“Cellissimo” is an evening of beautiful cello and piano music performed by two international artists.

English Cellist Michael Kevin Jones is reuniting with Pianist John Bryden after a 16 year gap, to bring a new concert to the South West. Opening their tour at St Stephen’s, Michael and John are very pleased to be together again. The tour follows the recording of a brand new CD ‘Cello Meditations’ which includes works by Faure, Bach and Pavanne.

Reverend Jess Lancaster, who set up the new concerts with Tim Smithies of Metronome, is especially delighted that Cellist Michael is generously offering both a free workshop, for all children, and masterclasses for cello players wishing to improve a current performance piece. The workshop and masterclass will take place on Thursday, October 31.

This is a wonderful opportunity for any local players to receive tuition from an acclaimed, world art is and to perform to a private group in a safe but challenging environment. Email [email protected] for more information about the concert, workshop or masterclass. All are welcome.

Cellist Michael studied Music Performance Piano/Cello at the Royal College of Music in London. Having played for the Royal Family and studied in Germany, Michael has found a unique place for himself among today's solo performers, developing a non-conventional career incorporating multi-musical activities and is also an avid teacher and coach.

Pianist John Bryden studied in Emmanuel College, Cambridge. John’s concert career has taken him from California to Kathmandu via Wigmore Hall and round the world on leading over 150 tours within Europe, playing in houses or museums associated with Beethoven and Elgar among many others.

The programme for the concert is highly varied and includes some challenging new pieces as well as old favourites, there will be something for everyone.

All pupils attending the workshop or masterclasses will receive a free ticket to the concert.
