THE Churches Together team in the Launceston area are hosting a ‘General Election Hustings’ evening on June 25 at Central Methodist Church.

The evening will start at 7pm and will allow the North Cornwall Prospective Parliamentary Candidates the opportunity to meet with the community of Launceston.

All the candidates have been invited to share their views on the provisions in the community, safeguarding concerns, support for farmers, future investment for Launceston and how they plan to engage with the community. This is a free event and there will be opportunities to put questions to the candidates.

Rev Kevin Pickup, project lead for the Gateway Centre, will be chairing the hustings.

He said: “This is a great opportunity for residents of the Launceston area to come and meet the candidates and to find out what they stand for. While some might say that churches and politics do not mix, it is important to understand that many of our churches are a cornerstone to our communities.

“While we do try to be politically neutral in our views, we do support many people within our communities and it is important that they know what they are voting for.”
