THE chairman of Bude’s Royal British Legion has announced the monumental sum raised as part of 2024’s Poppy Appeal.
Each year, Royal British Legion (RBL) members from across the country play their part in raising money for the Poppy Appeal. The effort is the RBL’'s biggest fundraising campaign held every year in November, during the period of Remembrance.
Dave Worth, chairman of Bude’s branch of the RBL has revealed that the organisation’s Bude branch raised a huge sum of £20, 221.04 for 2024’s appeal.
In the announcement, he said: “ Thanks to all collectors and shops of Bude, Taste of Cornwall for letting us have their shop again, and Bude Post Office for putting up with my bad admin.”
Dave also revealed that after five years as the town’s Poppy Appeal organiser, he will be stepping back from the role.
Speaking to the Post he explained that the role has limited his work-life balance, saying: “I take ten days off work every year and during those, I collect eight hours a day.”
He added that the town’s branch is in need of local support, stating: “RBL is in desperate need for new members. We also have the building that needs heating, which need to find money for.”
Dave will continue in his role as chairman until a replacement comes forward, he has thanked everyone for their support.
