A NORTH Cornwall committee for Cancer Research UK has announced its total sum raised for charity during 2024.

The Bude and Stratton Committee for Cancer Research UK raised more than £44,000 in 2024, thanks to another busy year of successful fundraising events.

This brings the total amount raised by the committee since its formation to £735,000; money which directly supports ground-breaking cancer research right here in the South West.

The national charity aims to fund scientists, doctors and nurses to help ‘beat cancer sooner’. It also helps spread awareness of different forms of cancer and provides information to the public.

The Bude and Stratton committee’s final fundraising event of the year was their annual ‘Carols and Mince Pies’ evening at The Falcon Hotel, Bude, where the audience enjoyed various musical entertainments and traditional Christmas Carols.

During the evening, members of the committee were presented with long service awards by Kim Hammerton from Cancer Research UK (CRUK). Kim, who is the CRUK Relationship Manager for this area and supports local committees in their fundraising efforts, presented the committee members with service awards ranging from two years to more than 40 years. Collectively, the current committee members have been fundraising for Cancer Research UK for a total of 228 years.

The committee has various fundraising events planned for 2025 and is actively seeking new committee members to join their friendly group. Those who may be interested in joining the committee, or could offer occasional help at events, are asked to get in touch with Anne Bryant via: 01288 352844.

The next meeting of Bude and Stratton Committee for Cancer Research UK will be the AGM on Monday, February 24, at 7pm in the community lounge at Bulleid Way, Bude. All are welcome to attend.
