A HOLSWORTHY pub has been presented with a shirt as thanks for their sponsorship of a promising local footballer.
The Olde Market Inn has sponsored Katie Grigg’s role as a player for Plymouth Argyle Women.
Ian Brown, landlord of the venue, said: “We have a connection with Katie in particular as she’s not only the bar manager here at The Olde Market Inn but also the daughter of Cath Grigg who is my partner in business and my partner in life.
Katie for a very long time has enjoyed playing football and has been involved in many youth programmes including Hatherleigh which she played for from 10 years old until she was 16 but then couldn’t go any further due to it no longer being mixed at that age group.
“She then played for a bit for Bradworthy and Crediton girls teams. Then following on from there she was accepted into the Devon FA County football team alongside the Development Team from Exeter City. At 16 years old she then had the opportunity to play for Plymouth Argyle Women’s Team which she did until the age of 18. Then went back to Exeter City for three years and then left last season to rejoin Argyle.
“We as a company were in a situation where we could offer sponsorship for Katie and it seemed the right thing to do and very silly if we hadn’t done so. Sponsoring Katie for the season has been great as it’s supported her throughout the season.
“To be able to sponsor teams and individuals is great not only for them but for us also as it feels like we are actually supporting and helping the growth of these clubs and individuals. We also sponsored Halwill Ladies AFC and Bude Colts RFC this last season as we also have connections with them.”
