MUSIC was all around this week as local children came together in Launceston as part of Songfest.
Students from a variety of schools came together at Launceston Town Hall to enjoy an session of song and symphony that has been described as an ‘unforgettable experience’ by those in attendance.
The event was a celebration of Celtic tradition, providing and exhilarating commemoration of the musical legacies of Cornwall, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Brittany, the Isle of Man and Galicia in Spain.
Among schools taking part in the event was St Stephen’s Community Academy from Launceston.
Maura Furber, executive head at the school said: “It was an absolute thrill to be at the Songfest event at Launceston Town Hall this week. Our children had the incredible opportunity to join forces with other local schools to create a vibrant 'Songfest' community choir. This year’s theme was the seven Celtic nations.
“The energy and standard of performance was fantastic and the songs brilliantly conducted by Patrick Bailey from Cornwall ASONE Hub.”
ASONE Hub is a partnership of organisations, led by ASONE, promoting and supporting high quality music education in Cornwall, which is funded by Arts Council England.
As part of this special event, students took to centre stage to perform their song of choice for all those in attendance.
Ms Furber continued: “As always, our children were shining ambassadors for St Stephens Community Academy, and they filled us with immense pride. Their teamwork and collaboration were on full display, and their voices resonated through the hall, creating a truly magical atmosphere. What an unforgettable experience.
“A huge thank you to Ms Gilbert and Pete for preparing our children in their weekly music club and always supporting them . We really appreciate all your hard work and kindness.”
