NHS Devon has released a statement as residents in Holsworthy remain facing problems with accessing their pharmacy.

The troubled branch of Jhoots Pharmacy, based in the town, remains closed after the resignation of a member of staff and their locum pharmacist, meaning they cannot legally dispense prescriptions.

It is the latest of several issues facing the pharmacy since it was taken over by Jhoots from Lloyds, including the closure of their previous branch amid claims of unpaid rent prior to two sudden closures during 2025.

NHS Devon has said that it will ‘continue to work’ with Jhoots to ensure a stable and reliable service.

It is not yet clear when, or if the pharmacy will reopen, with the pharmacy operators not responding to repeated requests for comment.

A spokesperson for NHS Devon said: “We understand that temporary pharmacy closures are frustrating for local residents, who can experience difficulty in accessing their prescriptions, and we are grateful to the local community for their patience in this matter.

“NHS Devon is aware of the recent temporary closures and will continue to work with Jhoots to ensure they provide a stable and reliable service in Holsworthy going forward.

“If a prescription has been sent to a pharmacy that is closed or unable to dispense due to the absence of a pharmacist, it can be returned to the Electronic Prescription Service or handed back to the patient by on-site staff, allowing another pharmacy to dispense the medication.

“Additionally, patients have the option to nominate a distance-selling pharmacy, which can deliver their prescriptions directly to their home free of charge.

“For patients looking to access a pharmacy, we recommend using the NHS Find a pharmacy’ online search tool. By entering a postcode or town, patients can view nearby pharmacies along with their usual opening hours. Information on distance-selling pharmacies are also available on this website.”
