Cornwall Cricket League Division Two East round-up – Sunday, June 23

WERRINGTON Seconds are now 18 points clear at the top of the table after beating second-placed Bude on Sunday at Ladycross.

With the club hosting their annual mid-season luncheon and the ladies hosting their South Petherwin counterparts in the Cornwall Women’s Development League, there was a big crowd and they didn’t disappoint. Bude got off to a quickfire start through James Sharman (37) and Tom Lush (18), but three wickets fell with the score on 62 (62-4).

Warren Rumble (33) and James Turner (23) rebuilt the innings, but wickets fell throughout as they finished on 195-9 which was made possible by late efforts from Harry Dymond (17no) and Brett Hunter (16). Ian Searle was the pick with 4-28 from his nine overs.

Werrington openers Marley May and Simon Bishop (27) saw off the new ball before Andrew De Rosa (2-27 off 9) struck twice in the 17th over (72-2).

May (46) and Dan Howgill then put on a match-winning partnership of 71 with the latter playing some handsome shots.

Howgill eventually departed for 42 off Hunter, and although late wickets fell including three for Mark Whitefield (3-37), skipper Jason Seldon’s quickfire 23 proved decisive.

Holsworthy made it a perfect weekend as they beat Lanhydrock by six wickets at Stanhope Park.

Lanhydrock’s score of 217-7 saw a third wicket stand of 108 between Luke Buckland and Ben Attfield, the latter making 59, while Buckland batted the whole innings for 87 from 142 balls.

Opening bowlers Jack Greening (3-41) and Dan Smith (4-45) shared the wickets, before Greening produced his first league hundred of the season.

A second wicket stand of 128 with Aiden Gerry (43) set the platform, and although they slipped to 176-4, skipper Ryan Walter (15no) joined Greening who finished 117 not out from 132 balls with 15 fours and two sixes.
