BUDE Cricket Club held their annual presentation evening at the Brendon Arms on Saturday, November 16.
Several members met beforehand to watch the England against South Africa rugby union match at Twickenham, before sitting down for a two-course meal.
Once the food had been consumed, there were speeches as well as the presentation of the trophies.
It was a successful summer for the Seasiders with the first team finishing an impressive fourth in Division Two East, helped by a remarkable 58 league wickets by Australian Brett Hunter, while the seconds just missed out on the top four slot which would have seen them stay in the new ten-team Division Five East.
However, they should be well placed to mount a real assault on promotion in 2025.
The winners of the trophies were as follows: First Team: Batsman – Warren Rumble; Bowler – Brett Hunter; Captain’s Player – James Turner; Second Team: Bowler – Mike Taylor; Batsman – Michael Taylor; Captain’s Player – Peter Ellis; Club Awards: Clubperson of the Year – Wayne Adams; Catchers Cup – Jack Miles.
Gifts were also presented to Wayne’s fiancee Kate Edwards for her efforts behind the bar and providing food after juniors training which Wayne runs, and to Louise De Rosa for her fantastic teas throughout the season.
First team captain Warren Rumble, who is set to stay on in the role, said: “It was an excellent evening to round off a really good summer at the club.
“Looking ahead to next year we’re hoping Brett (Hunter) will be back for a third season and Richard Dymond – Harry’s brother – is moving back down from London.
“Unfortunately we might be losing JT (James Turner) to the Navy, but we’re talking to a few players.
“We’re also teaming up with Tintagel for winter nets and hope to start those fairly soon after Christmas!”
