North Cornwall Table Tennis League latest round-up

CHAMPIONS North Hill A remain on course to defend their title following a 6-4 victory at third-placed Bridgerule A on Thursday night.

That, despite David Streak making it 25 straight wins for the season with a superb treble.

The veteran saw off Iain Oxenham in a decider in the night’s opener before defeating Mike Briggs and Shirley Luckhurst.

Pete Freeburn beat Briggs for the second time this season in the fifth to get their other point, but two victories from Oxenham and Luckhurst plus Briggs’ victory over Helen Johns and the doubles ensured they remain in a good spot.

Budehaven A remain top, four points ahead having played a game more, after seeing off their Stratton counterparts 9-1.

The hosts won the first seven matches without dropping a set as Aleks Worth, Alistair Prades and David Sillifant secured two singles victories apiece and the doubles.

Elyot Burnett stopped the rot with a four-set success over Sillifant, but Prades and Worth ensured a good night’s work.

Across the hall it was the same scoreline between Budehaven B and visiting Crackington A.

Ross Paynter saw off Jeremy Skelton in straight games for Crackington’s point, but trebles from Nathan Jukes and David Ewen got the job done.

In Division Two, Budehaven C remain firmly in charge of the title race after an impressive 8-2 success at Bridgerule B.

Alan Quilter gave the hosts a good start by seeing off Ezra Jukes, but besides the doubles which Quilter and Barry Stearman won against Robin Worden and Keith McGarry, all the matches went Budehaven’s way. They sit level on points with second but have two games in-hand.

Altarnun A remain fourth after a 6-4 victory at Budehaven D, that despite a hat-trick for Louis Konowalik.

But doubles from the trio of Dave Jones, Jamie Sims and Geoff Hale were enough.

The other match saw Crackington B defeat Altarnun A 6-4.

James Ellis grabbed a hat-trick for the hosts, including a superb straight sets victory over Paul Burden.

Burden regrouped to win his next two, while David Thorpe also secured a brace.Crackington’s other points came in the doubles and from singles victories for Angela Johnson and Peter Ellis.
