The Magpies girls have recently had some games against Liskeard’s development squad and have won their first ever matches since the team was formed three years ago. The score in the latest game was 24-9.
Reflecting on the win, team captain Lowenna North said: “Great game, they didn’t let us have it easy but we rose to the occasion and got the win! So proud of each and every one of you.
Team manager Georgina Browne added: “It was great to see a game with such fierce, competitive play and a good win to match.”
The result goes to show their persistence and hard work is paying off with people constantly commenting on their skills and progression.
It’s been a real challenge for the Magpies as the team members include a lot of younger players, and the league is full of experienced ladies.
They have never put their heads down, they just play their game and get better each time. As part of the league commitments they have also had to turn their hand to a bit of officiating during other games and have bravely stepped up to umpire and score.
The shooters have been performing well under pressure with the rest of the attack feeding the shooting circle.
The centre court players bring the ball down the court smoothly, making great drives and finding space. All the team get a high amounts of interceptions and tips during game play. The defence are solid, they read the game well, effectively limit scoring opportunities and regain possession.
