MEMBERS of several running clubs were in action on Sunday, October 27 at the Tavy 7 and Rosemullion 10K races.
Nineteen members of Launceston Road Runners made the short trip over the border to tackle the Tavy 7 with Angela Brinicombe, David Thomson and Jaine Hynes achieving top three finishes in their respective age categories.
Tavistock AC’s long-standing seven-mile road race is on its third course since it was started in the late 1980s. It is now held on Dartmoor on an undulating but fantastically scenic course which starts at Plaster Down on the western edge of Dartmoor and goes past Pew Tor and the hamlet of Sampford Spiney.
Entrants were also treated to spectacular scenery, plus bacon butties and cakes provided by the home club’s resident catering team.
The results of the Launceston runners were as follows: Joe Thomson – 42:30; Darren Evans – 46:06; Jon Kappes – 47:58; David Thomson – 49:38 (second in M60 category); Mike Gilbert – 52:28; Eddie Thomson – 52:31; Jaine Hynes – 57:29 (third in F55 category); Andrew Simpson – 59:01; Matt Pickard – 59:03; Nick Smith – 59:56; Martin Hynes – 1:01:08; Mark Simpson – 1:02:15; Angela Brinicombe – 1:02:29 (first in F65 category); Mark Jones – 1:02:39; Andy Berry – 1:02:46; Mark Lancaster – 1:02:59; Andrew Hosking – 1:05:14; Linda Pickard – 1:07:48; Dave Pickard – 1:14:09.

Holsworthy were led by Dave Garrett’s 1:06:16 with Phil Thompson (1:08:01) and Terina Ellacott (1:19:49) while Merryn Allen’s 1:02:12 was the fastest from their neighbours.
Sarah Richardson was done in 1:16:49 while Elizabeth Haworth’s 1:23:32 was enough for first in the F70 age group.
The Rosemullion 10k also took place on the same day and is the fifth race of the ongoing 2024/25 Cornwall Multi-Terrain Race Series.
The race starts and finishes at the Carwinion Playing Field in Mawnan Smith near Falmouth with the route mostly off road, and takes in local footpaths, the coastpath round Rosemullion Head and the entrance of the Helford River, tracks, fields and country lanes. A scenic course with some great views!
One Launceston member, Ian Grimes, headed west and finished in a time of 1:10:44 which was good enough to place him third in the M70-74 section.
Bude RATs were represented by five members at the Rosemullion 10K with some decent success.
Morgan Craig was sixth overall and the fastest in the M45-49 age group in a time of 44:18.
Antony Jarvis (49:59), Jeremy Brown (51:57) and Craig Harper (54:55) were all in the top 12 of the M50-54 age group with Jarvis fifth.
Stephen Hutchinson also finished in the top three of his age group, his time of 1:03:56 good enough for second in the M70-74 category behind St Austell’s Peter Brocklehurst and ahead of Grimes.
