SWPL PREMIER WEST (SATURDAY)

Sticker 1 Camelford 1

SKIPPER Sam Wade’s opportunistic volley earned the Camels a crucial point as they drew 1-1 at mid-table Sticker.

The centre-half slotted home the rebound after Mark Gusterson’s penalty was saved, that after Haiden Chapman had put the villagers in front in the second half.

Camelford boss Reg Hambly was able to welcome back Sam Watts and Tom Cowling from the side beaten at Bude a week earlier, although he was still missing Shae Cardiff.

The first half was fairly even with the hosts limited to a couple of long-range efforts, while at the other end, Kenan Nicholas a shot wide of the target from the edge of the area.

Camels started the second half on the front foot and a good move down the left ended with Gusterson steering Andy Boxall’s cross just wide of the near post.

Ross Beare then played Gusterson in again but the striker’s shot flew wide from 15 yards.

Sticker took the lead against the run of play when a quick break from the halfway line saw top scorer Chapman finish well past the oncoming Josh Colwill.

The Camels reorganised, bringing Bailee Deignan on in defence and pushing Adam Sleep up top and reaped their reward 15 minutes from time when Sleep held the ball up and played in Boxall who was brought down just inside the area.

Gusterson’s penalty was superbly saved by Ethan Elwell, but Wade was on hand to calmly volley in the equaliser.

Camelford could have won it in the last minute when, following a corner, Boxall’s goal-bound volley was cleared by a defender’s outstretched leg.
