BUDE Town boss Steve Hackett admitted Camelford ‘probably did enough to go home with a point’ after the Seasiders continued their decent form with a 1-0 victory at Broadclose Park on Saturday.
A scrappy contest which saw goalkeepers Ty Rowe and Josh Colwill rarely tested – was decided ten minutes in when Aaron Hart’s fine finish beat Colwill from 20 yards.
Cam Hutchison – on dual-registration from Southern League outfit Falmouth Town – forced a decent stop from Rowe in the first half, but despite the Camels dominating after the break, Bude held on comfortably in front of a healthy crowd of 125.
Reflecting on the afternoon, Hackett said: “We were delighted to get the win on Saturday as it was always going to be a difficult game for us against a solid, established SWPL side in Camelford who are always so hardworking, organised and physical.
“It was an extremely even game and the pitch was heavy, it was hard for either side to get a hold on the game in the conditions and thankfully we came away with maximum points because of a moment of magic in the 10th minute.
“There’s still a lot of game left after going 1-0 up but the lads showed brilliant game management to get us over the line. Camelford probably did enough to go home with a point but we won’t complain that they didn’t!”
Bude have utilised their ever-improving youth system, with teenager Hart scoring the winner.
Hackett continued: “The goal was fantastic, some great movement from the forwards created some space for Dylan Morgan to run into, he turned his man and fed the ball into Aaron on the left who found a bit of space and hit a great strike into the far right hand corner past Josh Colwill.
“A great moment for Aaron who has been a real success story for us this season - he is a lovely quiet lad who is a natural footballer, he has quick feet and makes forward play look so easy with his tricks and ability to breeze past his opponents.”
The result sees the Seasiders close in on the top half, an impressive effort considering Hackett had to start from scratch having stepped up over the summer following the departure of Ben Potter.
He said: “The result moves us to 10th in the table and ahead of our season target of more points than games played.
“But we won’t be resting or sitting back – we still have loads of winnable games left and want to try and grab even more points.
“We are in a position where with 11 less points we would be down the bottom but with 11 more points we would be in the top six, so it’s a kind of looking up the table to see if we can creep up a few places but not taking it for granted and still needing to look below us.”
Bude face a tough test this weekend as they go to top four hopefuls Wendron United.
Hackett concluded: “We are looking forward to Wendron on Saturday as it’s a great set-up down there and a club who sets a benchmark of where we would like to be in the next couple of years.
“It’s going to be another challenging game and opportunity to test ourselves against one of the best in the division.”
