THE Launceston Tennis Club singles finals were held after the "switch-on" of the new floodlights on Thursday, October 3.
All three matches were closely contested with some fantastic tennis enjoyed by the many spectators.
In a repeat of last year’s final, challenger Sam Tucker gave it his all but the sheer athleticism and consistency of Henry Cornish enabled him to retain his title – winning 6-4, 6-2.
The ladies final was a marathon of quality hitting from both wings of the court - Lucy Colville took the first set 7-6, reigning champion Charlotte Halls came back strongly in the second winning 6-2 and in the final match tie-break, Charlotte retained her title 10-4.
The junior boys final was even more evenly contested.
Oscar Dziedzic got off to a flying start in taking the first set 6-2, however Isaac Baron came back to win the second 6-3. In a nail-biting final set tie-break, Isaac came out the winner 10-7.
This season there were two new trophies presented by Charlie Bears – these were for children and parents/guardians in primary school and secondary school age groups.
The inaugural winners of the primary group were Ronnie and Anna Shanks, while in the secondary section it was Isaac Baron and Stuart Wakenshaw who took the honours.
