A CHARITY football match will take place at Wadebridge Town AFC’s Bodieve Park on Saturday (3pm) for MacMillan Cancer Support.
The match is being organised by Jon May, who works at Travis Perkins’ Wadebridge branch.
His side – made up of members of the Wadebridge branch and local members of the community are taking on a side put together by Travis Perkins’ Regional Director for Devon and Cornwall, Adam Fricker.
Explaining how the idea came about, Jon told the Post: “Travis Perkins are very big supporters of MacMillan.
“We always do a fundraiser each year for them and within our branch we have several keen footballers.
“At a meeting earlier in the year we discussed it with Adam, and it snowballed from there.”
Jon admits he’s been delighted with the interest in the event.
He said: “We’ve got about £4,500’s worth of auction stuff and already raised nearly £1,000 through raffle tickets.
“We were probably looking at a couple of grand initially, but it’s been much more successful than we could ever have imagined.”
Entry into the ground is free where there’ll be a raffle, hog roast, bar and more.
