NORTH Cornwall looks to be bending and snapping in the coming weeks, as Launceston turns pink for an upcoming production of ‘Legally Blonde the Musical Jr’.

Launceston Youth Music Theatre (LYMT) are about to stage their second full scale musical at Launceston Town Hall next week (February 13 to 15). The production of Legally Blonde the Musical Jr features 28 of the company’s older students — all over the age of 13 — and is a wonderfully funny and heartwarming adaptation of the hit movie of the same name.

The story follows Elle Woods; A fashionable sorority queen, she has everything she could ever dream of, a beautiful boyfriend, wealth, and status. But soon enough her ivory tower begins to crumble after she finds herself dumped and replaced by Vivian, a law student.

In an effort to win back her boyfriend and restore her perfect lifestyle, Elle decides to apply to Harvard Law School and prove she isn’t your typical blonde. What begins as a vain effort to win over a boy, she eventually decides to take her studies more seriously, taking on a court case when her role model is accused of murdering her husband.

This February, Launceston’s best young acting talents will be taking to the stage and telling the story with a musical twist. Featuring songs such as ‘Omigod You Guys”, “Bend and Snap” and “So Much Better”, this show is guaranteed to ban the winter blues, and fill the town with pink!

Its second full production, the group is hoping to impress audiences following rave reviews of its last production of ‘Shrek the Musical’.

Directors of LYMT, Amy Hodgson and Sarah Bradley, have expressed their pride at how hard the students have worked over the last two terms, learning difficult vocals and choreography, and bringing the energy and enthusiasm this musical requires.

Amy said: “This has been particularly challenging for Amy’s daughter Ella, who plays the lead role of Elle Woods. With no less than eight costume changes, and ten musical numbers, Ella has definitely found her inner ‘Elle’ whilst working hard on vocal stamina.”

As well as staging its shows, Launceston Youth Music Theatre have been kept even more busy as they took to the stage to perform at this year’s mayoral civic ceremony.

Amy continued: “LYMT were also honoured to sing at the Mayor’s Civic Ceremony on. As one of her chosen charities of the year, they are incredibly grateful for her ongoing support.

“As LYMT comes to the end of its second year, since being established in March 2023, it is opening its doors to the sizeable waiting list in March. Fifty-five new students will be coming for a taster session, bringing the total students to over 100. With two highly trained and experienced practitioners in dance and acting joining the team, we are proud to provide high quality musical theatre training to all our students.”
