Local students were transported back in time as they discovered the world of Ancient Egypt.
Pupils from Egloskerry Primary School, part of Athena Learning Trust, had an unforgettable day of hands-on learning at Launceston Library this term, where they delved deep into the wonders of Ancient Egypt.
The visit was made even more special by the exceptional contribution from the Royal Cornwall Museum from Truro, who brought along an impressive collection of ancient artefacts and interactive learning activities.

Daisy and Kate from the Royal Cornwall Museum led the children through a fascinating series of tasks that brought Egyptian history to life. Pupils explored the mummification process, had the opportunity to write their names on papyrus, and even examined real artefacts that are over 5,000 years old. The day was filled with engaging question and answer sessions where pupils could ask about everything from the pyramids to the afterlife.

The pupils left the event with a deeper understanding of Ancient Egypt and a greater appreciation for history, all while enjoying the fun activities that made the learning come to life.
A spokesperson from Egloskerry Primary School said: “The history curriculum at Egloskerry Primary School aims to inspire curiosity, critical thinking, and a deep understanding of the past. Through engaging lessons, children explore key historical events and civilisations, developing empathy and historical awareness. Emphasising diverse perspectives and primary sources, the curriculum encourages critical analysis. Pupils study ancient civilisations, the mediaeval period, and modern world history, connecting the past and present.”
Lynsey Slater, principal at Egloskerry Primary School added: "This experience was an incredible opportunity for our pupils to explore history in such an engaging and interactive way. The chance to handle real artefacts and immerse themselves in the culture of Ancient Egypt was truly invaluable. We’re grateful to Launceston Library and the Royal Cornwall Museum for hosting this remarkable learning experience!"
