A Tintagel pub has donated thousands of pounds to the RNLI through its fundraising efforts this year.
A cheque for £5,000 was recently handed over to the lifesaving charity from the Port William.
Just under half of the total amount was raised through activities involving the local community and hamper raffle sales.
Overlooking Trebarwith Strand Beach, the pub’s team often witnesses the incredible lifesaving efforts of the RNLI including instances where people have been rescued from the rising tide or rip currents, and wanted to give something back.
General manager of the Port William, Alan McFarlane, said: “We’re thrilled to be able to support the RNLI with this donation as it’s a great cause and the team do so much work to keep the beach safe.
“We wanted to do something with our community which was going to really help a local cause, bolstering our commitment to the area by putting on fundraising events throughout the year and bringing people together whilst also supporting the RNLI.”
Dave Nicoll, RNLI fundraising and partnerships lead added: “We’re incredibly grateful for the donation from the team at Port William, to both the staff and patrons who have contributed to raising such a fantastic amount of money for the charity.
“The funds will go directly to saving lives at sea, funding the training and equipment needed by our lifeguards and volunteer lifeboat crew across the south west.”
The RNLI donation was made through St Austell Brewery’s Charitable Trust, which has donated over £1-million for local charities and good causes since it was founded in 2003.
