Bude’s Storm Tower has had one of its most important pieces is reinstalled.

At the start of this week, the Compass Point project reached a pivotal moment as the cross was successfully reinstated, signifying the latest advancement in the ongoing rebuild

Despite a recent spell of rain and wind, on January 8 the weather held off enough to allow for this key moment.

A spokesperson from the project said: “The day unfolded under the crisp clarity of a beautiful, clear sky, albeit accompanied by a biting wind. The careful operation saw the cross gracefully winched above the tower and then lowered to reclaim its rightful position.

“After navigating through challenging weather conditions in recent weeks, the current favourable weather trend sets the stage for the upcoming final phases. The next step involves securing the roof onto the steel framework that was lifted into position just before Christmas.

“The once incomplete skyline now proudly displays the familiar silhouette of the Storm Tower, underscoring a significant step toward its full restoration.”
