THE Ruby Run is to return after a year’s absence.
There were fears the run may not return but the task has been picked up by the Hatherleigh Rotary Club and they are encouraging as many people as possible to sign up for the traditional half marathon.
Hatherleigh Rotary is picking up the baton of organising the popular event after a year’s absence and the run will take place on its established date of the second Sunday in June with Made-Well of Hatherleigh being the main sponsor and Shebbear College being a partner to the event.
The half marathon will run from Holsworthy and finish at Hatherleigh, with a shorter ‘all ability’ event starting at Highampton along part of the Ruby Way.
By making people aware of the race on June 9 the Rotary Club hope to give potential participants plenty of time to train, organise teams or get individual sponsorship.
Former organisers John Allen and Arthur Stewart said: “We are delighted that the traditional Ruby Run will continue under the auspices of the Hatherleigh Rotary Club after a year’s absence.”
It is hoped a large turnout will be enticed to take part in this event to ensure its longevity. Philip Hackett, president of Hatherleigh Rotary Club, said: “We are encouraging as many runners to participate, especially local people of all abilities. This race has been a tremendous success story for Ruby Country and Hatherleigh Rotary Club are honoured to be organising the race and securing its future with the assistance of our local sponsors and partners.”
Additional information regarding the event will be posted on Ruby Run Half Marathon Facebook page or www.rubyrun.co.uk
