RESIDENTS have been praised by Holsworthy’s mayor after they banded together to help each other out after Storm Darragh left homes without power and caused fallen structures, including trees.
Roads around the town were among those across the country to be disrupted, with a National Grid engineer escaping unscathed after a tree fell on his vehicle as he responded to power cuts in the area.
Businesses and groups offered support to the local community, with the White Hart Hotel in the town among those offering assistance to people without power.
The A388 near Chapman’s Well was also blocked for nearly a day due to an obstruction caused by a fallen tree near to the Northcott turn off.
The efforts of the community in rallying together to provide assistance in challenging times has led to praise for those who went above and beyond being issued by Cllr Nigel Kenneally, the town’s mayor, who said that he was proud to be the mayor of ‘this great town’.
Cllr Kenneally said: “The amazing community spirit shown by the people of Holsworthy during Storm Darragh made me very proud to be mayor of this great town. Individuals and businesses have gone out of their way to help those without power or suffering from storm damage.”
