TEN new homes on nearly two acres of land could be built in a hamlet near Holsworthy if planning permission is granted.

Three homes on the development opposite St Andrew’s Close, Sutcombe are expected to be for social rent, and the site will link with a footpath and play area.

In its parish plan, Sutcombe has identified the need for at least 23 new homes in a range of sizes to enable a “more balanced local population” and encourage local economic and environmental sustainability.

Design details for the mix of two, three and four bed properties, together with the layout, infrastructure and more information on the affordable homes will be arranged later if plans by a Mr D. Furse are agreed in principle by Torridge District Council.

Planning permission on the land from the 1980s for a village store or launderette, and a home has expired.

Agents for the applicant Trewin Design Architects said the proposal would provide an economic boost, construction work, and more people being brought to the area, contributing towards the vitality of local services.
