431 Prime Sheep, 110 Draft Ewes and Rams

Smaller entry of hoggs met a strong trade for all weights. Overall average of 331.2ppk and a lot more could have been sold. Top per kilo on the day was 353ppk for two pens of 38kgs £134 from Terry O’Reily, Rectory Farm, Halwill.

Two vendors at 350ppk, S Walker, Norton Farm, Bridgrule 44kgs £154 and Mr T Voaden, Inwardleigh 42kgs £147. D Manfield, Morwenstow realised 346ppk for his 42.6kgs £147.50. Top per head on the day was £168 from WK Stacey, South Penlean, Poundstock. Several pens £165 to £167.

Draft Ewes

Again a very fast trade with six buyers in attendance. Top being £159 for Suffolk x from Ryan Thomas, Kilkhampton. Mr A R Pincombe, Lezant also made £159 for his Texel x ewes. RJ Hill & Sons, Kingsett Farm, Tavistock saw their Continental x ewes top at £158. On the day Mules to £150 and Polled Dorsets to £148.

Store Hoggs

Small entry with a very strong trade. Top being £137 from Max Allin, Jewells Farm, Launcells.

Couples 37E & 54L

Larger entry with more buyers in attendance. Again a very strong trade. Doubles to £345 for a Blue Texel x FM from Meg Griffin-Vanstone, Ashwater, who also topped the Singles at £260 for two pens.

318 Calves

318 calves sold to a magnificent trade, which needs to be seen to believe.

Weaned Calves

A smaller number of weaned calves penned this morning but another very strong trade seen. A pair of British Blue steers reached £860 (6m) presented by Emmerson Farming of Okehampton, who sold British Blue heifers well to £760 (6m) for another sweet pair. Younger Limousin bulls attained £670 for Colwill & Bellairs of Morwenstow.

Milk Calves

Plenty of huge returns in the baby calf pens with 58 over £500.

British Blue bulls to £720, £622 for JG & S Endacott, Halwill, £605 for A & D Heyward, Coryton, £600 twice for P & S Harris Ltd, Bodmin and NJ & KC Bowden, Highampton and £590 for JG & S Endacott, Halwill. Limousin bulls to £610 for JG & S Endacott, Halwill, £555 for CJ & CM Budge, St Giles, £550 for WD Medland again and £528 for P & S Harris again.

Hereford bulls to £555 for A & D Heyward again, £535 for Colwill & Bellairs again, £508 for P & S Harris again, £495(x2) for G & C Jones & Partners, Winkleigh and £492 for P & S Harris again. Charolais bulls to £550 for J Sillifant, Pancrasweek, £540 for RA JF RH Poole, Milton Damerel, £540 for JLC Farms, Launceston, £505 (x2) for G & C Jones & Partners again and £500 for SR Gilbert & Son, Sheepwash.

Aberdeen Angus bulls to £540 for WD Medland, Whitstone, £522 for ST Beer, Bideford, £510, £500 and £465 for Colwill & Bellairs again. Simmental bulls to £465 and £460 for RJ & GJ Tucker, Morchard Bishop. British Blue heifers to £550 for RWH Dilling, Highampton, £540 for P & S Harris again, £522 for S Beer again, £520 twice for DJ Oke, Bradford and RWH Dilling again.

Limousin heifers to £550, £510 for DJ & WR Oke again and £490 for CJ & CM Budge again. Charolais heifers to £500, £430 for NJ & KC Bowden again and £428 for SR Gilbert & Son again. Simmental heifers to £470 for RWH Dilling and £380 for RJ & GJ Tucker, Morchard Bishop.

Aberdeen Angus heifers to £395 for Colwill & Bellairs again, £380 for Laneslade Dairy Ltd, Brayford more to £375 again for Colwill & Bellairs. Hereford heifers to £390 for G & C Jones & Partners again, £360 for S Baker & Son, Lewdown and £332 for SA & EJ Kirk & Son, Okehampton.

Friesian Bulls

31 Friesian bulls average £122 and topped at a big £318 for super month-old bull in from A and D Hayward, Coryton with hardly anything with size under £100.

A fabulous entry of store cattle for our Show & Sale.

A big thank you to our judge Mr Chris Sobey who had a hard job with the large number of quality consignments on offer. Top price on the day was £2460 for 19mth Charolais from Messrs G & W Bowden, Black Torrington. Other 20mth Charolais from Mr AS May, Week St Mary £2290.

Other Charolais from Messrs N & B Trewin, Bideford £2060. Simmental steers from Cornborough Farms, Bideford to £2280 with other bunches £2030 and £2020. All Natives sold well this week to a top of £2280 for a 22mth Hereford from Mr AS May, Week St Mary.

Organic Aberdeen Angus steers 21mths from Fryer Farming, High Bickington to £2250, others to £1810 (5) and Devon steers from Messrs T & A Mawtus, Holsworthy to £2130. A lovely run of well bred Charolais heifers from G & W Bowden, Black Torrington to £2460 (2), others £2280 and £2240.

Other Charolais from Mr AS May, Week St Mary £2100 and for 18mth Dairy x Charolais from N & B Trewin, Bideford £1880 (4). South Devon heifers from Mr J Collings, Treburley £2170. Simmental heifers from Cornborough Farms £1810.

Native heifers Dairy x heifers topped at £2080 for two at 22mths from Messrs D Cornish & Sons, Welcombe. Other Aberdeen Angus from Messrs N & B Trewin, Bideford £1860. Plenty of 16-21mth wintering cattle saw plenty £1600 to £1900.

Friesian steers to £1960 for Messrs V & M Brown & Son, Bideford. Other strong framed wintering Friesians from Messrs D Cornish & Sons, Welcombe £1600 (2) and four from Messrs T & J Adams, Torrington £1500 (4).

Grazing Cows

Top on the day was £890 for three Holsteins from Mr P Warrington, Holsworthy.

Finished Cows

Two young cows from Mr P Warrington, Holsworthy topped at 230ppk, others to 209ppk.

Younger Store Cattle

An impressive entry in the younger section.

A cracking run of young 14mth British Blues from PJ & SJ Hawking, Highampton sold remarkably well to a top of £1840 (4), £1820 (6), £1810 (6) and £1760 (9). Young British Blue heifers from Messrs RWH Dilling, Highampton £1580 12mths, others £1520 12mths.

A run of young quality Charolais steers from Messrs G & W Bowden, Black Torrington saw two 11mth steers £1970. Younger 9mth steers £1840 (3). A 14mth Dairy x Charolais from Mr C Wickett, Marsh Farm, Stratton sold well at £1680.

Other 10mth Charolais from Messrs SJ Crocker & Son, Dringwell, Lewdown £1470. Best of the Charolais heifers saw a top call of £1750 for a 14mth Charolais from Messrs SR & SM Crocker, Lewdown.

Other younger Charolais heifers from Messrs G & W Bowden, Black Torrington £1500 (11mths). A cracking consignment of single suckled Simmentals from Messrs RG & SM Ley, Petersmarland saw 10mth steers to £1660, heifers to £1490.

Native steers and heifers also saw a very fast trade throughout. £1780 the top for five Aberdeen Angus steers from Messrs FC & SJ Wade & Son, Bradworthy. Others from Messrs MJ & RE Andrews, Launceston £1420 and Messrs D Cornish & Sons, Welcombe reaching £1285 (4).

Young Aberdeen Angus heifers to £1340 for five at 12mths from Messrs DS Folland & SV Hughes, Winkleigh. 12mth Herefords from Mr C Wickett, Marsh Farm, Stratton £1460. Hereford heifers to £1270 12mths from Messrs RWH Dilling, Highampton.

Devons sparked a lot of interest. A run from Mr JA Slee, Buckland Brewer saw 8mth steers £1400 (6), heifers to £1010. Young Belted Galloway cattle from Mr MN Shere, Woolsery saw 6mth steers to £920 and 6mth heifers to £770.

56 Dairy Cattle

A smaller than anticipated entry saw a fierce trade once again with dairy cattle racing away to Devon, Cornwall, Somerset and Wales.

Topping the sale at £3500 was an exceptional 1st calving heifer ‘Perrins Roxy 28’ yielding 31Kgs on behalf of the Hussell Family of Shebbear. The same vendors sold other pedigreefresh calved heifers to £3150 & £2800 with their consignment averaging a very impressive £3150.

Heifers also sold to £2650 on behalf of Messrs TRD Griffin & Son of Whitstone, with Alan and Karenza Hembrow of Lostwithiel topping at £2600 for their consignment of fresh calvers. A smaller entry of cows saw a top price of £2500 for a 3rd calving cow ‘Carsella Altamonson Ivy 2’ sold on behalf of Heywood Farm Partners Ltd of Chulmleigh.

Messrs WRC & JE Christophers of Truro continued their herd dispersal of pedigree Ayrshires with a consignment of served and bulling heifers. Served heifers topped at £1000 for a pair due September/October. Bulling heifers sold to a solid trade topping at £900 with others realising £890, £800 and £780.

Messrs MP Varcoe & Partners of Bodmin sold a consignment of Holstein Friesian and British Friesian X Yearling Heifers which topped at £560 with others selling to £540.
