The members of Granville Lodge No. 3405 hosted their annual Summer Charity Tea Party on Sunday, August 6.
This year the event took place in Poughill at the home of the Worshipful Master of the Lodge John Weller and his wife Denise. Despite high winds and stormy weather being forecast the event went ahead and the weather remained calm much to the relief of over 100 people attending.
A splendid afternoon tea was prepared by Denise and her helpers and was enjoyed by all those present. There was a raffle and bottle draw with all proceeds, which included some generous donations, going to the Masonic Charitable Foundation. The magnificent total of just over £1,500 was raised.
The MCF was set up in 2018 following the merger of four other charities and is supported by all Masonic Lodges in Cornwall. It is based in London and administered by the United Grand Lodge of England. The funds are allocated to medical research, education, care for the elderly and numerous other local and national charities. A number of Cornish charities benefit from these funds.
Entertainment this year was provided by the popular local singers the Bencoolen Wreckers and everybody agreed that it had been a very enjoyable and worthwhile afternoon. John thanked everyone for attending and said he was so pleased that the predicted rain held off.
