MEMBERS of the Launceston community showed out in force to pay their respects during the town’s Remembrance Service in the Square.

On Sunday, Launceston Town Band led the procession from Broad Street into the Square before the Launceston branch of the Royal British Legion took the helm and guided the many community organisations and groups in the traditional parade.

Legion Chaplain Rev Mary Williamson then led those in attendance in prayer before the silence was observed.

Under the watchful eye of parade marshal Ed Wade-Hall a list of conflicts and a poem written by the young son of a serving member of the Armed Forces was read aloud before the parade and supporters sang the traditional hymns and the National Anthem.

Following the parade, all were invited back to the Town Hall and the Edymead Hall for refreshments.

John Harrison, chairman of the Launceston Royal British Legion branch, said: “Thank you to everyone that attended yesterday’s Remembrance service in the town square.

“As always, I’m amazed by the turn out from the town to support this event and to all that took part in the parade.”
