THE Launceston Choral Society’s Christmas concert raised a substantial amount for the Salvation Army Christmas appeal.
The generosity of the audience who came and choir members raised £379 for the Salvation Army’s work for the homeless in the retiring collection at Launceston Choral Society’s traditional Christmas concert at Central Methodist Church. The choir gave its now traditional mix of traditional and modern carols sparklingly accompanied by Liz Jones on the piano.
Musical director, Jonathan Mann, as well as conducting the choir also played the organ for a selection of traditional carols for the audience to sing with the choir. An arrangement of Irving Berlin’s “White Christmas” and two choruses from Handel’s “Messiah” also featured.
The music was interspersed with seasonal readings, traditional and original, by Caroline Latham, Paul Denning, Andy Dunning, Jennie Hillman, Crispin King, Diana Anderson and Cherry Warne.
Choir and audience learned that there is both a Christian and Muslim tradition of Mary giving the tabby cat its M Like last year, the audience was invited to the church hall for a cup of tea and a mince pie.
The choir is now looking forward to its next concert on March 16, which will feature music by John Rutter and Karl Jenkins.
The choir rehearses at 7.30pm on Monday evenings in the church hall. New members are always welcome and can phone 01566 772701 for further details.
