A PRIMARY school is doing its bit to crack down on speeding motorists.

Children at Holsworthy Primary School have been learning about the work undertaken by their local police officers in a six-week block as part of their ‘mini police project’.

It sought to allow children to understand more about the work police do, the issues they face and encouraging the youngsters to focus on staying safe, making good decisions and helping to make a difference in the local community.

Vikki Moore, the assistant headteacher of Holsworthy Primary School, said: “Children in Pine and Birch Class have enjoyed a six week block of learning on local community policing as part of the ‘Mini Police Project’. The children have learnt about a range of policing issues that they identified as needing addressing in the local area.

“Through the project, the children have gained a wider understanding of the work the police do and have got to know a representative from their local policing team. They have focused on staying safe, making good decisions and through their participation, they have made a difference in the local community.

“We now have many budding police officers in these classes and each class enjoyed conducting a community speed watch to end their time as police cadets.”

After the project, children were presented with their own ‘mini police cadet’ badges.
