707 Lambs, 124 Draft Ewes and Rams

Similar entry and a strong trade for the good meat hoggs.

Overall average of 332.2ppk to a top of 352ppk from two vendors N Forfitt, Shebbear 43.2kgs £152 and SJ Murrin & Son, Monkokehampton three pens of 44kgs £155.

Two more vendors realised 350ppk K Dennis, Boyton 42kgs £147 and Chris Jenn, Woolsery 44kgs £154.

Several pens of heavies over £165 to a top of £179 from Nigel Colwill, Lifton and £178 from David Norman, Dolton. Mark Dymond, Barnstaple had a run of heavies which topped £175.

Draft Ewes

Similar entry and a real flying trade with no vendor going home unhappy.

Overall average of £150.18. Texel x ewes to £190 from Graham Hookway, Torrington followed by Paul Pickard, Clawton who realised £186.

Suffolk x ewes to £176 from Rod Evely, Torrington. On the day Mules topped at £180.

More ewes needed.

A very strong trade for all on offer. Top on the day was £128 from Paul Tythcott, Instow.

312 Calves & Weaned Calves

Quality not quite up to last week’s standard but just as we thought the calves couldn’t go dearer, they have today, with 6 over £500, 30 over £400 and 103 over £300.

Weaned Calves

Heifers topping today at £570 (x5) for British Blue from Baulch partnership, North Tawton.

Aberdeen Angus closely following at £560 (x2) for DG & LA Risdon, Camelford. British Blue bulls to £520 for JR & A Down, Whiddon Down.

Milk Calves

Milk calves selling to a phenomenal trade. Limousin bulls to a huge £550 for PH Collins Partnership, Holsworthy and £400 for R & S Home, East Putford.

British Blue bulls to £525 for JG Bayly, Parkham, £520 for O Petherick & Son, Kilkhampton, £510 & £500 for Westcott Farm, Sutcombe more to £500 for Knapman Farms, Chittlehampton. Fewer Charolais bulls on offer selling to £428 for RA JF RH Poole, Milton Damerel.

Aberdeen Angus bulls selling to £415 for JH & SM Dark & Son, Helston, £400 for R & S Home, East Putford and £375 three times, twice for JH & SM Dark again and for Knapman Farms, Chittlehampton.

Hereford bulls to £408, £398 for S & J Cook, Filleigh, £395 for MW & AC Vanstone, Chilsworthy and £390 for SG & GH Jose & Son, Launceston.

British Blue heifers to £470 (x2), £460 (x3) for O Petherick again, £425 for Knapman Farms again, £405 & £400 (x2) for Westcott Farm Partnership again.

Limousin heifers to £430, £425 for PH Collins again and £305, £302 for WJ & CC Bond, Buckland Brewer.

Aberdeen Angus heifers to £362 for ARP Farming, Pancrasweek, £345 for Knapman Farms and £292 for LJ & LE Luxton & Son, Milton Damerel. Charolais heifers to £325 and £280 for RW Finnimore, Congdon Shop.

Hereford heifers to £305 (x2), £300 (x2), £290 for MW & AC Vanstone again, with others to £290 for GR & TG Bond, Langtree and two at £275 for S & J Cook again and R Keenor, Lapford.

Friesian Bulls

More older Friesians on offer this week selling to a grand £350 (2m) for M & M Andrew & Sons, Beaworthy, two £260 (2m) for BH & AE Worth, West Down and three £215 (2m) for Holland Partnership, Warkleigh.

With younger under one month selling to £125 for WA Raffe & Sons, Bradworthy, seeing an average of £154 for the 19 on offer.

200 Store Cattle

A flying trade this week. All cattle young and old averaged £1384. Several superb consignments of quality stores.

An impressive run of smart confirmation Limousin, Charolais and British Blue steers from Mr G Rose, Highampton saw a Holsworthy record price of £2170 for a 22mth Charolais.

British Blues from the same farm £2100 and Limousins to £1985. Forward Dairy x Continentals topped at £2015 for two 26mth British Blues from Mr EG Bluett & Son, North Tamerton.

Three 28mth Dairy x British Blues from Mr RL Heard & Son, Hartland £1985. Other British Blues from Mr EG Bluett & Son, North Tamerton £1860.

Dairy x Limousins from Messrs CG & BA Dart & Son, Holsworthy £1840 (2). Six younger 17mth Limousins from Messrs CT Banbury & Son, Broadwood £1725 and £1670.

Others from Mr BJ Yelland, Holsworthy £1630. Charolais x Friesian steers to £1840 for a 23mth steer from HR Yelland & Son, Clawton.

A good run of single suckled Stabilisers from Messrs K & L Hutchings, Thornbury to £1740, others £1600 (5). Heifers from the same farm selling well at £1480.

Top priced heifer this week was £1830 for a 19mth Charolais from Mr BJ Yelland, Holsworthy.

Single suckled Limousin and British Blue heifers from Mr G Rose, Highampton £1820 (4), £1730 (3) and £1700 (4), with steers and heifers average £1842.

Dairy x heifers to £1660 for three 22mth British Blues from Messrs HR Yelland & Son, Clawton, who sold four 23mth Charolais £1650.

Best of the Limousin x heifers was £1620 for two at 22mths from Messrs CG & BA Dart & Son, Holsworthy, who sold others at £1550. Younger 17mth Limousin heifers from Messrs CT Banbury & Son, Broadwood £1480.

More cattle urgently required as several buyers drove a very long distance for part loads.

Younger Stores

Heifers topped the day with five 15mth British Blue x Friesians from RGA Wood & Partners, Thornbury £1395, others from the same farm £1355 (3).

Hereford heifers from Messrs Hutton Bros, Hatherleigh £1160. Others from Messrs JE & SJ Dennis, Hartland £1130 (6).

A young 10mth Hereford steer from Messrs RWH Dilling, Highampton flew away at £1345, who sold 8mth British Blues to £1260 and £1200.

Next week there will be a consignment of 30 12mth Hereford steers and heifers. Further entries invited.

OTM Weighing Cows

196ppk was the top this week for a 35mth Hereford from Mr A De Val, Tavistock weighing 772 kilos £1281, who also saw top price per head at £1340.

Holsteins to £1211 for a 662 kilo cow 183ppk from Messrs RJ Weeks & Son, Hartland.
