Similar entry of hoggs with a lot of lean and light weight hoggs on offer, which showed in the overall average as last week the good meat hoggs sold to a premium.

Top per kilo 336ppk for two vendors Bellamy & Crocker, Tavistock 42kgs £141 and Nigel Colwill, Lifton 40.2kgs £135. The Gubb family, Langtree realised 334ppk for 43kgs £143.50 and 333ppk for 42kgs £140.

Top per head was £167 for good meat 61kgs from Orleigh Farms, Bideford. David & Mandy Walter, West Putford saw their 54kgs make £165 and Bond & Sons, Bradworthy realised £164 for 59kgs.

Draft Ewes

A few more on offer met a strong trade. Top being £165 for Texel x from David Gubb, Langtree. Suffolk x ewes to £161 from David & Mandy Walter, West Putford.

Mules to £155 from Trevor Dingle, Launceston. Polled Dorset to £157.

181 Store Hoggs

A lot of smaller framed hoggs on offer but still in demand. Top being £120 for Suffolk x from Dufty Bros, Northlew.

Couples

Small entry but a very fast trade, with several prospective buyers present. Kerry Hill 6T singles topped the day at £230 and Suffolk x singles to £210. More couples wanted.

Another outstanding entry of 400 Calves sold to a continued flying trade. 15 Calves over £500 with a further 63 over £400.

Top of the day was £560 for a strong Charolais bull from Mr PJ Bowden of Ilfracombe with other Charolais to £490 for the best of an excellent run from Nick & Kate Bowden of Highampton who sold others to £470 x 2, £465, £460 & £455.

A massive entry of British Blue bulls sold to an electric trade topping at £540 for Messrs O Petherick & Son of Bude who sold others to £510, £485 & £470.

Other Blues to £515 for Messrs ST & EE Nickels of Barnstaple, £515, £495 & £470 for Bernie Worth of Ilfracombe, £510 & £490 for Mr J Baulch of North Tawton & £500 for Messrs RM, CE & IR Harris of Winkleigh.

Limousin bulls to £520 & £515 for Messrs PH Collins Partnership of Holsworthy and £510 & £440 for Messrs AJ & PE Nancekivell of Bude.

Native bulls topped at £530 & £500 for two strong Hereford bulls from Messrs GG Smale & Son of Launceston with others to £430 for Brian Scambler of Bude, £395 for Messrs MC & LM Pincombe of Umberleigh and some cracking baby bulls from Messrs MW & AC Vanstone of Chilsworthy to £378.

Aberdeen Angus bulls topped at £440 & £400 for Messrs J & RJ Steer of Tavistock with others to £392 for Ian Tapp of Tiverton, £390 x 3 for Best Farms Partnership of Saltash, £375 & £370 for Mr J Baulch and £370 for JG, F & S Ley of Sutcombe.

Weaned Calves sold to a strong trade topping at £700 for a 4 month old British Blue steer from Messrs RM, CE & IR Harris of Winkleigh. 5 month old Simmental steers to £690 for Messrs GG Smale & Son of Launceston and more strong Blue steers from Messrs RJ & JR Warren of Penzance sold to £665 x 2.

Hereford steers to £630 X 2 & £605 X 2 for Messrs GG Smale & Son and Aberdeen Angus steers to £630 for Messrs RJ & JR Warren. Friesian steers to £500 for Messrs KJ & SC Grabham of Northlew and Messrs AJ & PE Nancekivell of Bude.

Heifers topped at £600 for a British Blue heifer from Messrs RJ & JR Warren who sold others to £530 and Limousin heifers to £455.

Another decent entry this week and another packed ring of buyers. Quality slightly back on the forward cattle.

A cracking entry of 20mth single suckled Limousins from Mrs DE Gay, Ashwater saw a top call of £1840, with others £1790 and £1630. Other single suckled Limousin steers from Mr A Bowden, Clawton £1570.

Dairy x steers saw a very strong trade, £1840 the top for a 29mth Aberdeen Angus from Mr SW Graham, Marhamchurch. Other younger Aberdeen Angus from Mr WJ Wooldridge & Son, East Putford £1500 17mths and £1490.

Limousin x Friesians to £1540 for four at 17mths from Messrs H & M Thorne, Umberleigh. Other Limousins from Messrs AJ & PE Nanacekivell, Kilkhampton £1430.

Forward heifers saw serious demand, £1690 the top for a 23mth Hereford x Friesian from Mr SW Graham, Marhamchurch. Other 19mth Herefords from KJ Waldon & Partners, Umberleigh £1640.

British Blues to £1640 for two 26mth heifers from Messrs AN & JA Guy, West Putford, with others from the same farm £1570. Single suckled Limousins from Mrs DE Gay, Ashwater £1610 (2) and £1540 (2).

Holstein steers to £1590 for two at 16mths and 25mths from Messrs T & J Adams, Torrington. Others £1330 and £1240 18mths.

A good entry of 12-13mths cattle from Messrs CR & CF Timms & Son, Inwardleigh topped at £1410 for two British Blues. Other 12mth British Blue steers from Mr C Wickett, Stratton £1325 (4).

Simmental steers 12mths from Messrs CR & CF Timms & Son, Inwardleigh £1370, with Limousins from the same farm £1330. Young Native steers topped at £1355 for a 13mth Aberdeen Angus from Mr C Wickett, Stratton. Other young Aberdeen Angus from Mr A Ogbourne, Broadwood £1160 (4).

Young heifers to £1270 for two British Blues from SFB Agricultural Services, Buckland Brewer. Other British Blues from Messrs CR & CF Timms & Son, Inwardleigh £1215 (3).

Charolais at 11mths from SFB Agricultural Services, Buckland Brewer £1200. Hereford heifers from Messrs CR & CF Timms & Son, Inwardleigh £1260 (4). More young cattle urgently required.

30 Organic Cattle

A run of young single suckled cattle from Messrs MD & EL Collins, Germansweek saw a top of £1540 for a 17mth Charolais heifer.

Younger 13-14mth Charolais from the same farm £1270 (4) with 11-14mth Aberdeen Angus and Limousin steers £1190 and the Aberdeen Angus and Limousin heifers 12mths £1195 (3).

Other younger 8mth organic Charolais from Messrs BD & RM Scambler, Bude £845 for four steers and four Charolais heifers selling well at £835 8mths.

Grazing Cows

£1190 was the top this week for a 38mth Friesian from Mr RJ Coaker, Frithelstock. Holsteins to £1140 for a 103mth cow from Mr R Gorst & Son, North Petherwin.

OTM Cows

Top this week was 179ppk for an 826 kilo Devon cow £1478 from Mr P Norman, Dolton.

Today’s sale saw a strong trade throughout.

Topping the sale at £2600 was ‘Janeck Pepper Baby 4 GP83’ a 2nd calving cow yielding 42Kgs on behalf of Ranches Ltd of Bridestowe with another 2nd calver ‘Janeck Pepper Baby 5’ selling to £2400 from the same vendors.

The Kellow Family of Treveglos Farm, St Mabyn sold a super run of fresh calvers with 2nd calvers topping at £2500 (X4!!) and other fresh cows selling to £2450.

Messrs SEJ Tapp & Son of Tiverton sold fresh 2nd calvers to a top of £2400 (x2) for ‘Chettiscombe Casper Rosina 151 VG86 SP’ and ‘Chettiscombe Prosper Dutchy 196’ both yielding over 45Kgs.

Messrs Hugo of Bodmin continued their Herd Dispersal with a large consignment of fresh calved cows topping at £2400 (x2) with others selling to £2350, £2300, £2250 and £2200. Older cows saw a good trade with a 4th calving cow from Messrs EV & BK Benney & Son of Helston realising £2400.

Heifers topped at £2500 on behalf of the Kellow Family who sold other heifers to £2350 (x2) with their consignment averaging a very impressive £2400.

The Murch Family topped at £2450 for ‘Littleweir Flash Blossom’ with ‘Littleweir Rahpsody Figi’ selling to £2300.

Messrs RJ & JR Warren of Penzance sold their pedigree heifer ‘Bartinney Tropic Jubilee’ to £2450 with Sam & Fran Bayley of SFB Agricultural Services also selling a fresh heifer at £2450.

Messrs SEJ Tapp & Son realised £2450 for ‘Chettiscombe Cosmo Halo 4’ with another heifer ‘Chettiscombe Kingdoc Rosina 186’ selling to £2350.

Ranches Ltd sold a red and white heifer ‘Janeck Lordship Jessica Red’ to £2350. Martin & Pat Gorst of North Petherwin sold a dry cow due in March to £1950.

In calf heifers saw a similar trade to recent weeks with heifers in great demand and racing away to all parts of the South West, Wales and Shropshire. Topping this section at £2000 was a pedigree ‘Hawkleigh’ heifer due late March to Hereford on behalf of Moreton Pound Farm, Bude.

The same vendor sold other heifers due in the Spring to £1950 (x2) with their consignment averaging £1749. Messrs EV & BK Benney & Son topped at £1980 for a heifer due in March with others due in April selling to £1850 & £1800.

Messrs LT Harvey & Sons of Penzance sold a smart run of in calf heifers due late February/March topping at £1900 (x2) with others realising £1880.
