CREWS from Holsworthy Fire Station were called to reports of a bin on fire at a skate park.

It is understood to be the second fire at a bin located at the play facility, with the first incident not reported at the time.

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said it believed the fire was deliberately started, adding that if it was not for someone calling 999, the blaze could have spread or escalated further.

They have also urged anyone who may witness acts of arson to report them additionally to the police.

A spokesperson for Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said: “Our appliance was mobilised to a bin on fire at the skate park. Crews found a small fire and extinguished using a bucket of water. This is the second time recently the bin has been deliberately set alight.

“The first fire was not reported. Thankfully someone spotted this fire and called 999 this evening so we could prevent it from spreading or escalating further. Please be vigilant and report any acts of arson to the police. Deliberate fires can tie up resources from attending other emergencies in the area.”
