VOLUNTEERS descended to help Holsworthy Hamlets Parish Council make a success of its annual litter pick event.
Accompanied by suitably sunny and surprisingly warmer weather enjoyed during Saturday, March 8, 15 volunteers gave up their time at the weekend to help clean up the parish and rid it of the litter bug menace.
Armed with high visibility jackets, litter pickers and bin bags, the volunteers enjoyed an opportunity to socialise in the sun while doing their bit for the community they call home.
After their morning’s work was completed, it was over to Chilsworthy Village Hall for their post-pick treat, in the form of freshly cooked, hot bacon and sausage baps by way of a thank you for their efforts.
A spokesperson for Holsworthy Hamlets Parish Council said: “Many thanks go to the 10 volunteers from Chilsworthy and the five volunteers from Chasty & Staddon Road who gave up their time on Saturday morning to come out and help to clean up the parish by picking up litter.
“The weather was dry and the volunteers collected a huge amount of litter which had been discarded along the roads and hedgerows of our parish.
“The volunteers were provided with high viz jackets, litter pickers and bin bags and they collected litter from both sides of the parish.

“Following their efforts, the volunteers met up for well-earned refreshments and conversation in Chilsworthy Village Hall. They were treated to hot sausage and bacon rolls which had been prepared for them, with many thanks going to David and Christine Campbell for doing the cooking”
The parish council added that it was grateful to Ros Wardle, Rob Hore, Tim Watson, Colin Maxey, Alastair Clements, Keith Picot, Matthew Wintrip, Trevor Dawson, Keith Wilton, Ray Fursdon, Julia Foster, Andy Walker, Wendy Walker, Roy Wiffen and Lorna Wiffen. for participating in the litter pick.
