Smaller entry with again the heavy hoggs still difficult to sell. Overall average on the day was 322.4ppk.

The handy weights sold to a top of 349ppk for a pen of 46kgs £160.50 from Graham & Hazel Butt, Ashbury, Okehampton. Rob Johns, West Ville, Bradworthy realised 333ppk for a pen of 42kgs £140.

Nigel Colwill, Broadwoodwidger saw his 34kgs realise 332ppk £113. Top on the day was £160.50 from three vendors.

A flying trade from start to finish with several around £200 to a top of £225 for a Charollais from Chris Prouse, Court Green, Clawton.

Suffolk x ewes to £202 from Trevor Johns, Deer Valley Road, Holsworthy. Continental x ewes to £200 from Oliver Copplestone, Pyworthy. Texel x ewes to £195 from Chris Ham, Frithelstock. Mules to £180.

Couples 63E & 101L

Larger entry and a much faster trade and more could have been sold.

Doubles to £370 for Suffolk x FM from Steve Poad, Saltash, who also realised £360 for another three pens. Singles topped at £300 for a Suffolk x from Daniel Norman, Dolton.

Top of the section was £870 given for a pair of 6 month old British Blue steers in from James Warren, Penzance who sold a trio at £830 other British Blue steers to £800 for Robert Andrews, Saltash.

Followed by Aberdeen Angus to £770 for J & S Murch, Umberleigh. Charolais heifers to £790 (6m) for J & S Murch again and British Blue heifers reached £670 for James Warren again.

British Blue bulls to £800 for JG & SE Endacott, Halwill, £660 for LJ Goaman & Sons, Hartland, £620 for MR & EG Hannah & Co, St Cleer, £610 and £590 again for LJ Goaman & Sons, more to £590 for PJ Wickett & Son, Kilkhampton.

Charolais bulls to £700, £630 for LJ Goaman & Sons again and £620 for G & C Jones & Partners, Winkleigh. Friesian Bulls

A huge price for older Friesian bulls to £480 (x4), £400 (x2), £350 (x2) for LJ Goaman & Sons, Hartland, with plenty of younger Friesian bulls selling between £80-£160.

230 Store Cattle

Another absolute flyer this week with several buyers desperately trying to source cattle.

Very few older cattle and more urgently required, as all were strongly contested. Top this week was £2000 for two 23mth Herefords from Messrs P & P Ogborne, Ashwater.

19mth Limousins from Mr C McWhirter, High Bickington in very store condition sold well at £1860 (2) and £1840 (2). 15mth British Blues from RJ & HJ Vanstone, Holsworthy £1700. Other British Blues from Mr A Ball, Yelverton £1580.

Top of the heifers this week was £2050 for two at 23mths from Mr BJ Yelland, Holsworthy, who sold others at £1720. A 19mth Hereford from Messrs P & P Ogborne, Ashwater £1680 and £1580 for three 19mth Herefords from Messrs DJ & I Wood, Bideford.

Best of the British Blue heifers was £1590 for six at 15mths from RJ & HJ Vanstone, Holsworthy. Charolais heifers from Messrs J Davey & Sons, Bratton Clovelly to £1550 (3). Holstein steers to £1300 for four grazing type Holsteins from LM Knight, Highampton.

120 Younger Store Cattle

Stronger than ever, a furious trade.

Top of £1960 for a 10mth Aberdeen Angus bull from Mr RKH Vooght, Petrockstow, who sold two others £1800 (2) and £1580 for two at 9mths and 11mths. Herefords also sold well with seven at 13mths from Mr CJ Wooldridge, Okehampton £1420.

A fine run of 10mth cattle from Messrs AD & SKA Darley, South Molton saw Herefords to £1330. Young 9mth Hereford steers from Hutton Bros, Highampton £1140 (5), heifers £1000 (5) 9mths.

A run of young well farmed 6mth Charolais from Messrs J & S Morgan, Halwill saw two at £1220, others £1140 and heifers £1100 (3). Best of the 9mth British Blue steers to £1200 for two from Messrs AD & SKA Darley, South Molton, whose six British Blue heifers sold to £1000.

Other 9mth British Blues from Heywood Farm Partners, Ashreigney saw steers £1170, heifers £1065 (5).

50 Dairy Cattle

Today’s dairy sale saw a flying trade from start to finish.

Topping the sale at £3250 was a freshly calved 2nd calving cow ‘Curscombe Score Joy 228’ yielding 40Kgs and selling on behalf of Kate Hookway of Nova Park Holsteins, Holsworthy.

Kate sold another 2nd calver ‘Sevenoaks Applefree Appletime VG86 2 yr old’ at £3200 who had 11 generations of EX/VG breeding and was yielding 36Kgs. Cows also sold to £2600 for a 2nd calver ‘Glendene Beauty 49 Th’ on behalf of Messrs H Burrows & Sons of Woolacombe.

Heifers saw a top of £3100 for ‘Willsbro Emilio Lila Z 4055 2 yr old’ who had calved in June and was due to calf again in June on behalf of Kate Hookway with the same vendor selling another heifer with an outstanding pedigree ‘Curscombe Score Joy 235 VG86 2 yr’ due to calf in July at £3050 with her consignment of milkers averaging £3150.

Fresh heifers saw a top of £2700 on behalf of the Parsons Family of Pyworthy with Messrs TRD Griffin & Son of Whitstone realising £2550 for their fresh heifer. Youngstock was in great demand and saw a phenomenal trade. In calf heifers topped at £2450 for a heifer due July/August on behalf of Messrs JN Stephens & Son of Launceston.

Other heifers due July/August from the same vendor sold to £2350, £2200 and £2100. British Friesian and Crossbred heifers saw a top of £1220 on behalf of Messrs KR & KA Hoare of Saltash. Bulling heifers topped at £1350 (x3) on behalf of Jeremy Stephens with others selling to £1250, £1200 and £1180 and the consignment of bulling heifers averaging £1181.

Mark Hillson & Family of Yelverton sold a super consignment of pedigree yearling heifers (Autumn 2024 born) from their ‘Coppicepark’ herd which topped at £1250 (X3).
